Water Softener - HYDRO-SOFT®
Hard
water is formed by calcium and magnesium minerals dissolving in
rainwater as it passes down through layers of limestone. The more
calcium and magnesium minerals absorbed, the harder the water
becomes.
When hard water is used in commercial or industrial applications,
problems will be encountered with scale and scum both with costly
consequences. Scale which forms on heating elements and in pipes
reduces heat transfer efficiency leading to unnecessary and wasteful
fuel usage; one eighth of an inch of scale on a heating element will
result in 25% more energy being used. Scale buildup can also cause
blockages in pipework and control valve.

Scum is formed as a result
of the reaction between hardness salts and soaps resulting in higher
soap usage and 'clogging' of woolen and other fibers. Scum will also
cause staining and spotting on the surface of glass, metal and
bottles and sanitary ware.

How
to select a Water Softener
To select the water softener unit bested to meet your requirement, you need to establish the following details:
-
the maximum flow of softened water required per hour, taking into account peak demands.
-
the total volume of softened water required per day ( 24 hours period ).
-
the total hardness load of raw water supply.
-
whether regeneration must take place at a predetermined time of low/zero demand.
